Jen Goeres
WordPLAY Consulting Founder, Canadian Healthy Play Facilitator 

Jen has been involved in sport and recreation for over 25 years, working and volunteering for not-for-profit, community, and municipal organizations and has experience as a front-line leader, coach, counsellor, programmer, program specialist, and supervisor. For eleven years, she worked on an array of community development opportunities within City of Calgary Community and Neighbourhood Services and City of Calgary - Recreation including further developing Ticket 2 Play, an innovative partnership between the City of Calgary - Recreation, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire, Calgary Community Standards, and Mount Royal University. She was also part of the City of Calgary - Recreation Access and Inclusion Team, building e-module and in-person training to strengthen connections with diverse community groups, completing a comprehensive scan of Canadian municipal fee assistance programs and creating multiple inclusive play resources for Calgary families.

Jen is also a HIGH FIVE Master Trainer and has facilitated over 950 hours of HIGH FIVE content across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. She was also a content writer and developer for HIGH FIVE Sport, HIGH FIVE Girls In Sport, HIGH FIVE Strengthening Children’s Mental Health and HIGH FIVE Indigenous Games for Children as well as an academic support for HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging. Most recently, she completed a comprehensive gap analysis project for HIGH FIVE National and is the social media coordinator for the HIGH FIVE Instagram account (@discoverHIGHFIVE).

Jen has also been a Healthy Play Trainer for the last ten years and is excited to now be one of the only Canadian Healthy Play Facilitators and Classroom/Play Consultants providing training and classroom/play consultations to recreation, sport and education groups across Canada.

In addition, Jen is a thirteen year member of the Alberta Parks and Recreation Association (ARPA) Recreation Connection and Collaboration Network (RCCN), past Chair of the ARPA HIGH FIVE Task Force and HIGH FIVE Trainer Exchange, past Chair of the Youth Development through Recreation Symposium as well as part of the Calgary After-School and Youth Leadership (LEAD) Steering Committee and a certified National Coaching Certification Program Learning Facilitator.

Jen graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Kinesiology (Adapted and Therapeutic Physical Activity) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Physical Education). Her love of teaching has led her to a decade long teaching career with the Calgary Catholic School Board as well as teaching at Christchurch Girls School (Christchurch, New Zealand). 

In her spare time, Jen can be found adventuring with her twins, finding opportunities to play in nature, and keeping a watchful eye on her backyard bee hives.
