Jen Goeres

Jen has been involved in sport and recreation for the past twenty years, working and volunteering for not-for-profit, community-based, and municipal organizations. She has worked as a front-line leader, counsellor, programmer, program specialist, and supervisor in many different recreation and sport opportunities. These include Community and Neighbourhood Services - North children’s program portfolio servicing over 3500 children a year and Ticket 2 Play, an innovative partnership between the City of Calgary - Recreation, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire, Calgary Community Standards, and Mount Royal University - a first of its kind in Canada.

Jen has also worked as a researcher, content developer, facilitator, and evaluator within the City of Calgary Recreation Access and Inclusion Team. This past year, she created e-module and in-person training opportunities for recreation staff to help build stronger connections with all Calgarians including individuals with differing abilities, the LGBTQ2S community and Indigenous groups.

Jen has been involved with HIGH FIVE Canada for the past eleven years as a Trainer and Master Trainer with over 900 hours of HIGH FIVE facilitation experience across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. She has also been a content writer and developer for HIGH FIVE Strengthening Children’s Mental Health and HIGH FIVE Indigenous Games for Children as well as an academic support for HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging. Most recently, she completed a comprehensive Gap Analysis for HIGH FIVE Canada and is the social media coordinator for the HIGH FIVE Instagram account (@discoverHIGHFIVE).

In addition, Jen is a twelve year member of the Alberta Parks and Recreation Association (ARPA) Children & Youth Committee (RC2), past Chair of the ARPA HIGH FIVE Task Force and HIGH FIVE Trainer Exchange, past Chair of the Youth Development through Recreation Symposium as well as part of the Calgary After-School and Youth Leadership (LEAD) Steering Committee. She also is a National Coaching Certification Program Learning Facilitator and Healthy Play Trainer. 

Jen graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Kinesiology (Adapted and Therapeutic Physical Activity) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Physical Education). Her love of teaching has led her to a decade long teaching career with the Calgary Catholic School Board as well as teaching at Christchurch Girls School (Christchurch, New Zealand). 

In her spare time, Jen can be found adventuring with her twins, finding opportunities to play in nature, and keeping a watchful eye on her backyard bee hives.

She is also the social media coordinator for the HIGH FIVE Instagram account (@discoverHIGHFIVE) and guest writer for Active for Life.
